SAO PAULO, Nov. 5 (Reuters) – Soybean production in Brazil in the 2021/2022 season should reach a record 144.7 million tons, the consulting firm Safras & Mercado estimated on Friday, which increased its forecast by 2, 5 million tons from the previous forecast, with the expectation of a sowing greater than expected.
Production would increase 5.4% compared to the previous season, when the country harvested 137.3 million tonnes. The planted area should now grow by 4%, to a record 40.5 million hectares.
Analyst Luiz Fernando Roque said that positive adjustments were made in the states of Mato Grosso, Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul. “In addition to these three states, there were also important adjustments in the states of Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul,” he added in dialogue with Reuters.
He argued that “the high prices in the national soybean market, both for the rest of the available harvest and for the deliveries of the new crop, have once again encouraged the migration of areas from other crops to oilseed”.
The analyst also cited the recent drop in live cattle prices, which also appears to encourage further migration from pasture areas to soybean crops, which also adds to the opening of new areas.
