Bogotá, Oct 29 (EFE) .- Unemployment in Colombia in September was 12.1%, which represents a reduction of 3.7 percentage points compared to the same month of 2020, reported this Friday the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE).
In the ninth month of 2020, the unemployment rate was 15.8% as the country was just taking the first steps towards economic reactivation after the standstill caused by the quarantine of several months against the coronavirus pandemic.
According to DANE, the occupancy rate in September was 53.7%, which represented an increase of 3.1 percentage points compared to 50.6% in the same month of 2020.
The country’s employed population last month was 21.7 million people, compared to 20.2 million in the same period of 2020, the information added.
Regarding the unemployed population, it fell by 795,000 people and stood at 3.8 million unemployed, which is equivalent to a variation of -21%.
By sex, the drop in the unemployed population in September was greater in men (-24.6%) than in women (-18%), added DANE.
The agency also released the inactive population figures, which in September was 15.7 million people, that is, a reduction of 1.3%, equivalent to about 200,000 people, compared to the ninth month of 2020.
