The Government launches this Tuesday a renewables auction that will bring 3,300 megawatts (MW) of wind and photovoltaic into play with accelerated lead times. The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge considers that the incorporation of the renewable generation resulting from this auction “will directly reduce the price of electricity, by displacing energy produced with more expensive and polluting plants.” The auction is structured in different quotas or power reserves, among which 600 MW stand out, which will have to be operational within a period of eight months, to advance savings, and 300 MW for small photovoltaic installations with relevant local participation.
The launch of this new auction by the Government occurs at a time marked by the tension in the price of electricity. In fact, the average daily price of electricity in the wholesale market will reach 207.14 euros per megawatt hour (MW / h) today, which will be the most expensive Tuesday in history.
