London, Oct 19 (EFE) .- The Spanish energy company Iberdrola plans to invest, through its British subsidiary Scottish Power, an additional 6,000 million pounds (7,090 million euros) in the construction of the East Anglia Hub offshore wind farm (east of England), advanced today the British Government.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, will announce on Tuesday 18 new foreign investments in the United Kingdom worth 9.7 billion pounds (12.65 billion euros). The Iberdrola project represents more than half of the announced funds.
The East Anglia wind farm, of which the first phase has already been built, will serve to provide “green” energy to 2.7 million homes in the United Kingdom and will create 7,000 jobs, the British government said in a statement. He stressed that the necessary permits are still being processed to give the final green light to the next phases of the project.
The president of Iberdrola, Ignacio Sánchez Galán, affirmed, according to the same note, that the company “shares the ambition” of the plan published by the British Government in November 2020 to promote the development of renewable energy sources.
“Faced with the UK’s stable and predictable framework, we are committed to playing our role,” Galán said.
“Our investment of 6,000 million pounds in the East Anglia Hub would be a significant step towards ensuring that there is enough offshore wind power to provide power to all British homes by 2030,” said the Chairman of Iberdrola.
The first phase of the project, the East Anglia One park, is located 43 kilometers off the coast of Suffolk (England), has a capacity of 714 megawatts (MW) and was completed in July 2020.
In the East Anglia Hub complex, which includes three other facilities – East Anglia One North; East Anglia Two and East Anglia Three-, Iberdrola aims to install turbines capable of generating 3.1 gigawatts (GW).
The investment announced today is in addition to the 10,000 million pounds (about 11,800 million euros) that Iberdrola planned to dedicate to the United Kingdom between 2020 and 2025.
