It is time to know the third and last pillar of Battlefield 2042: Hazard Zone. For weeks there has been speculation about what this experience centered on patrol play could be. No, it is not a battle royale; in fact, the main objective of the mission will not be to kill anyone. In MeriStation we have been able to know its first details and in which phases a game will be divided. You can see his first trailer at the head of this trailer.

Extract and survive: the keys to Hazard Zone
Hazard Zone will propose an asymmetric multiplayer where you must successfully extract the largest number of data panels available in the game. Up to 32 players (24 on PS4 and Xbox One) will be divided into squads made up of four specialists, all of them with the same objective to fulfill. During the games you will have to fight against these squads, the occupation forces that swarm the map and the dynamic weather, including the tornado.
The seven original maps of Battlefield 2042 will be the chosen scenarios for this mode. From EA DICE they emphasize that “every bullet and every decision counts “. Selecting your equipment, drawing up your strategy and adapting to the situation will be key elements to be able to survive a new day. You will have a limited time to complete the mission and only two extraction zones that will appear randomly. The greater the risk, the greater the reward, but you will be exposed to die and lose everything you have achieved in that game.
The company introduces an exclusive economy like this: black market credits. Depending on the value of the data you extract, you will receive an amount of these coins, which you can invest in new equipment for your next interventions. Expanding your tools will be essential when you face other better prepared squads.
The value of the dashboards influences what data you extract. At the beginning of the game, you will see a series of satellites on the ground surrounded by these occupying forces, who will defend it from all the player patrols. This faction has already manipulated them, which will detract from the final score. Nevertheless, during the middle of the game new satellites will drop. At that time a second hunting phase will begin to find the most valuable data. But everything has its counterpart: there will be less time to extract you, the weather will do its thing and you may at least have a single area left to get out alive. The opportunities are many.
What is a Hazard Zone game like?
You will start a game at Hazard Zone receiving the official communication from your superiors, who will give you the information about where you will land and what is the situation on the map. Later you will go to the equipment screen. In it you will be able to choose your specialist, the equipment that you will take to the game and the gadgets. Each squad can only carry one type of specialist at the same time (for example: only one of the four players can carry Webster Mackay).
Once the squad is confirmed, you will travel to the destination. Before arriving here you must communicate with your colleagues to decide who carries the data scanner, an exclusive tool in this way that allows you to know in real time the approximate location of the data. Knowing this information is limited to the person in charge of using it, who will have the task of sharing the information with their comrades.
The first phase of the game will try to obtain the data panels already present on the stage. You will have to deal with both the occupying forces and the rest of the patrols, so each misstep or poorly selected firefight can lead to your death. If you die you will go to the spectator screen. Your companions will be able to revive you by means of a “link of reinforcements”, a scarce token in the middle of the game and that can be acquired before starting with the black market credits.
The game will continue as normal until the equator is reached, when the first extraction zone will be randomly opened. A point will indicate the vehicle that will save all your progress in it … if you can be the first to reach it. Let’s say this first opportunity appears for those who want to play conservatively. Shortly after, the second wave of satellites will crash, the most valuable data panels we talked about earlier.
You can continue fighting and looking for new data until the second and last extraction zone appears, much closer to the end of the game than the initial one. If you stay on land you will lose all the progress you have made on it, although you will receive rewards if at least one partner manages to extract successfully. As is normal, in this last window all the remaining squads will fight each other to survive, so you can wait for the most intense moment of the game. If you make it out alive, you’ll see a summary of the squad’s performance and everything you’ve accomplished in that intervention.
Available from day one
Hazard Zone, like Portal and the multiplayer all-out warfare experience, will arrive at Battlefield 2042 at launch, expected for next November 19 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One and PC. There are still some doubts about Hazard Zone, especially in relation to progress and what kind of benefits will be available to you compared to the other two game experiences.
It is hoped that in the coming weeks we will be able to get to know him in greater depth. What we can say is that EA DICE conveys that Hazard Zone is not an add-on, but a fundamental pillar on which the offer of this delivery is based. On paper it is exciting; it remains to be seen how it works in practice.
