Parents of some students at Eden High School in the city of Saint Catharines, in the Canadian province of Ontario, created this week a petition in which they request that the director of the educational establishment be transferred to another center, after profile Instagram professional posted a photo with the figure 666.
In the photo in question, which is now no longer available on Sharon Burns’ account –fan of British band Iron Maiden– you can see a doll of the collective’s mascot, Eddie, and a piece of paper with the number 666 written inside a heart.
The parents specified that they created the petition on the Change.org portal – which now has more than 500 signatories – not because of Burns’ love for Iron Maiden, but because of the appearance of a photo with “a satanic symbol” on his profile of job.
They wrote that while all communities and schools are supposed to focus on “goodness, fairness and inclusion, this visualization of satanic symbols he is mocking and isolating large segments of the community in which he works and is clearly not upholding any of those values. “
Petition in defense
Then, in the same portal, another petition in defense of Burns, who by now has more than 17,000 signatories. “It is ridiculous that a pair of parents only judge her role as principal on the basis of a post on Instagram,” stated its authors, noting that Eden High School ands “a public school” and “non-Christian”.
In this context, they said that all people who are not happy with a teacher or the principal can go to another school. “The principal made so many efforts to remind the students that Eden [High School] it is a diverse place. […] Spread nothing but love and kindness, “they said.
